well, with my self-imposed 2 week fast and waiting to buy the album, tonight was like my wedding night. i got the cd as a gift from my dear friend amy (i'm low on cash due to buying a house), loaded it up on the ole ipod and sat out on the back porch at dusk to listen to it full blast on the headphones. boy, was i glad i waited... can i just say to all the naysayers that i heard blather on about the stripes "breaking their own rules" and saying GBMS sounded unfinished - what the fuck were you listening to?! the album is a complete work of art from beginning to end. jack and meg stay true to their roots while growing as a band... but you knew i'd say that, right?
blue orchid - when i first heard it, i'll admit i was confused, but in a good way. and every time i listen to it i love it more.
the nurse - i love that damn marimba. i love the 6 jacks in my ears. i especially love the little jerks of drums and guitar that separate the evil from innocence.
my doorbell - damn boy, i'll ring your doorbell whenever you want - simple, catchy, everyone's favorite.
forever for her (is over for me) - lyrically one of my favorites.
little ghost - reminds me of hotel yorba. you can just see them on the front porch singing without a care.
the denial twist - i will just take this space to go on and on about jack's hot-as-fuck voice. is that what giving up smoking does? i think this will be the next single.
white moon - i am lucy lying across the grand piano on this one. unrequited love for jack. beautiful sad song.
instinct blues - i adore all the tuning up and dirtiness. i was so glad to hear the guitar again! i can't wait to see this live.
passive manipulation - makes me want to hear more of meg. you need a longer song girl!
take take take - i love the vocals here! one of my favorites on the album. damn, i'm hot for j.w. tonight people. "my heart was in my mouth" - sexiest line on GBMS
as ugly as i seem - what's meg doing here - bongos? i like it. sweet and simple. i want to learn all the words and sing it.
red rain - very zeppliney (which i love) i HAVE to see this live.
i'm lonely (but i ain't that lonely yet) - beautiful. almost made me cry. i love the little meg tribute. i really underestimated jack on the piano before this album.
i really want to hear from people in the comments about their views on GBMS! i will be listening to it for weeks on end.
